Masterclass one · Career sponsorship

Who’s Opening Doors for You?

Advice can help you think through your next step. Advocacy can help others see you as someone worth considering.

Explore how sponsorship works, what makes someone willing to put your name forward and how to strengthen relationships that could support your progression.

What we mean by sponsorship. Career sponsorship means someone with influence actively advocating for you — recommending you for roles, projects or responsibilities when you are not in the room. It is not visa or event sponsorship.

What you will learn

  • 01The difference between a mentor, a sponsor and a supportive colleague.
  • 02How to recognise people who could credibly advocate for you.
  • 03Why trust, evidence of contribution and professional judgement matter when someone recommends you.
  • 04How to identify practical next steps for strengthening those relationships.

Your takeaway

A clearer understanding of who could advocate for you and where to focus your relationship-building next.

Learn with Denise Cárdenas López MEng FIChemE FAPM FRSA

Denise is a business leader and chemical engineer with more than 20 years of experience across nuclear, energy, environmental services and other regulated industries.

Her career spans engineering and process safety roles at ExxonMobil, director roles at Tradebe and vice-president roles at Amentum. She has led engineering, safety and operational delivery, led the work to secure a UK nuclear site licence and held executive responsibility within the licensed business.
